Overview

Altus Thermal, the “Nest” of water heaters, looks to bring smarts to your home water heater, allowing you to monitor and control how much hot water you have at your disposal and make your unit more efficient and cost effective.

My Contribution

Altus Thermal was a consultancy project where I developed the first UX for the company’s first version of their mobile app and hardware device. To start I began with competitive research understanding where Altus could shine among the leaders in the home heating category. Key highlights:

Competitive research with the top 5 competitors to vet patterns and understand UX friction.
Partners with VP of hardware & engineering to design entire mobile app UX and hardware interface.
Built initial designs system to increase future product velocity on the mobile team.

Additionally I built a starter design system for the company so that their future designers, current engineers, and product leaders could easily iterate and evolve the UI in the future.
