RoadClub

Overview

The RoadClub team operated as a startup within Cambridge Mobile Telematics, where our small team of 10–12 built an Android and iOS app that incentivized users to drive safer through weekly rewards.

Contribution

I worked closely with designers, PMs, Marketing, Engineering, and leadership teams. I ran design sprints, created product specs, designed end-to-end product flows, and mentored designers.

I owned the Challenges feature which was validated with the user research team and aligned with the product roadmap. Through feedback sessions we discovered users wanted full autonomy of their weekly performance and wished to receive more robust rewards based on factors in their control.

Within the first 3 months of shipping the Android and iOS app RoadClub:

  • Grew to 18K+ user registrations via organic and paid channels.

  • Scaled from 0 to 12K monthly active users.

  • Averaged 5.5 user sessions per week of engagement.

Lesson learned: Creating the Challenges feature sharpened my understanding that building intrinsic motivation through streaks and/or timely triggers (and leaning less on monetary rewards) is likely a better long-term way to improve driving behavior.
